Start With an Active New Year

Regular physical activity is beneficial to both your physical and mental health. It can help manage your weight, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, strengthen your bones and muscles and even help your think, learn and keep your judgment skills sharp.1 Check out these tips on starting a new fitness routine as well as a free 35-minute Sculpt + Pilates + Stretch stacked class from obé Fitness exclusively for Blue365 members to help you try new workouts that you may want to continue in the future.

  • Start Slow: If this is the first time you are introducing physical activity into your daily routine, start slow and consult with your physician on which physical activities might be best for you based on your health condition. Aim to increase your activity level by no more than 10% each week.2 Remember, getting in good physical shape is a marathon not a sprint.
  • Build Activity Into Your Daily Routine: We all live busy lives with many responsibilities from work to child care. Find a dedicated time that works with your schedule and that you can consistently keep. Maybe an early morning run or workout class works best or maybe schedule your workout as you watch your favorite show at the end of the day. Having a set time to do your workouts will help you stay on track.
  • Allow Time for Recovery: It’s important that you give your body a break, especially if you are new to working out. Plan for some time for your body to recover whether it is taking a day off or mixing your days to work different parts of your body. Your body will thank you!

To give you some options of potential workouts you can do at home, try this free class from obé Fitness to get you moving in the new year. No equipment is required.
